NEW DRIVER NUMBER REQUIREMENT

Following a change in legislation, from 31 March 2025 anyone wishing to incept a new motor policy or renew their current motor policy must provide the driver number for the policyholder any named drivers on their policy.

After that date it will be an offence for any insurer or broker to provide motor insurance in Ireland to anyone who does not provide that information.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ME?

I AM A POLICYHOLDER

From March 31st 2025, the Government will introduce changes to the law requiring you to provide your driver number, and that of anyone else named on your policy, when you renew or incept a new business motor insurance policy.

All insurers and brokers will have to ensure they follow this step for all motor insurance policies issued from 31 March 2025. After that date they will be legally forbidden from issuing insurance to anyone who does not provide the necessary driver number information.
